Tasting - Choya Kishu Umeshu Plum Wine

Name: Choya Kishu Umeshu Plum Wine
Variety: Plum
Region:
Honshu - Wakayama
Country: Japan
Year: Not displayed on bottle
Price: $17

Winery Review: It has a delicious blend of sweet and tart that tastes great by itself or mixed in cocktails. And the ume in the bottles make for a nice treat.

I think it’s a bit too sweet for me to drink neat but there are tons of easy ways to add dilution. Even just a few ice cubes help but I also enjoyed adding club soda to make a plum soda (https://letsdrinkit.com/choya-umeshu/).

Wine Folly: There is not a section on alternate fruit wines.

My Review: Strong wine/fermented smell with a hint of plum and sweetness.  The taste is very plummy, but not as strong as the smell sells itself to be. Fruity like a berry and acidic. I had Brie cheese and salami with the wine. The creaminess of the Brie goes well with the strong sweetness of the wine. The salty salami worked like a palette cleanser, removing the sweet taste from staying in my mouth. Overall a pleasant wine, but a little too sweet to have often.

Tasting - Stella Rosa: Stella Peach

Name: Stella Rosa: Stella Peach
Variety: Mainly Moscato with various other varietals
Region: Santo Stefano Belbo
Country: Italy
Year: 2022
Price: $12

Winery Review: The charming flavors of white peach blended with natural honey are the first tastes to tickle your tongue. Stella Rosa Peach reviews describe the sensation of the lime spritz, crème de cassis, rose petals, and peach pie that line up on the palate as amazing. Nothing dominates, and all the flavors are balanced and natural. Stella Rosa Peach has an uncomplicated finish. There are lingering sweetness and fruity notes, which exit smoothly without leaving a syrupy, cloying taste (https://www.winepros.org/stella-rosa-peach/).

Wine Folly: (https://winefolly.com/deep-dive/moscato-wine/) I get a little of the dry taste and definitely get a very sweet smell                                                                    from the wine. Tasting it I can see where the aromatics make it                                                                    sweeter than it is.

My Review: This wine has a very sweet smell and is similar to champagne. I could not smell any hint of the peach. The taste is amazing, smooth with a slight peachy touch and ending with a tart aftertaste. Not strong at all, and could barely taste the alcohol. I had a second tasting with Brie cheese and salami. The creamy Brie complemented the sweetness of the wine as well as the saltiness of the salami. Having all 3 together was great and encouraged even more wine drinking to taste the combination.

All in all a very tasty wine and was perfect for a light wine drinking occasion with friends.

Welcome to the best wine blog you'll ever read!

Hey everyone, welcome to my wine blog! I am a senior at Virginia Tech and this semester I am going to be trying out as many wines as I can. I hope to be able to get better at rating wines, tasting wines, and giving thoughtful reviews about them.

My experiences with wine are a bit lacking and I could count the number of times I have drank wine on one hand. I have only tried a few red wines and have found them to be really bitter. This has led to me trying white wines, which taste really good compared to reds in my opinion. My of these experiences are me having wine in isolation. However, throughout this course, I want to drink wine with food and cheese.

Some more things I wanted to learn from this semester are how to shop for wine. Usually walking into the wine aisle at a store is overwhelming with so many options. I want to be able to tell the difference between good and bad wines just from the label.

Hope to have you reading the rest of my blogs this semester! Stay tuned for some wine tastings coming out this week!
